Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson grabs manufacturers’ attention

Ron Johnson, U.S. Senator

Oshkosh businessman Ron Johnson’s defeat of three-term Democratic incumbent Russ Feingold in the race for a U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin has drawn the attention of the National Association of Manufacturers.
Johnson, a Republican who had no prior political experience, “ran on a platform of reducing taxes and cutting government spending and we expect that he will support a pro-manufacturing agenda,” said Jay Timmons, executive vice president with the Washington, D.C.-based industrial trade group.
Prompted by his anger at the health-care law, Johnson entered the race in May and spent more than $8 million of his own money to unseat Feingold.
Johnson owns Pacur Inc., a manufacturer of plastic sheet packing materials.
Johnson filled out the association’s candidate questionnaire prior to the election and said he agreed with “the majority of the NAM legislative priorities,” Timmons said.
“We look forward to working with the new senator on pro-manufacturing legislative policies during the 112th Congress and beyond,” he said.
The association noted that there are more than 435,000 manufacturing jobs in Wisconsin.
